Statement of Intent
At Carrant Brook we understand that technology is a large part of the cultural capital of our pupils. As such, our pupils have the right to deep learning experiences that balance all the aspects of computing.
Our Computing curriculum focuses on a progression of knowledge and skills in computer science, information technology, digital literacy and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology (We are responsible).
These key elements are revisited repeatedly through a range of contexts during children’s time in school, in a coherent and sequenced way, to ensure the knowledge is embedded and skills are successfully developed.
Knowledge and understanding of ICT is of increasing importance for our children’s future both at home and for employment. Our curriculum equips pupils to use creativity to understand and solve problems that can change the world (We are inspired).
At Carrant Brook, we will introduce our pupils to a wide range of technology, including, but not limited to, laptops, iPads and interactive whiteboards, allowing them to continually practice and improve the skills they learn. This ensures they become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and computer technology– at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world (We are confident).
Our curriculum enables children to become effective users of technology who can:
- Understand and apply the essential principles and concepts of Computer Science, including logic, algorithms and data representation
- Analyse problems in computational term, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems (We are resilient)
- Evaluate and apply information technology analytically to solve problems
- Communicate ideas well by utilising appliances and devices throughout all areas of the curriculum.
Our pupils will understand the advantages and disadvantages associated with online experiences, developing them into respectful, responsible and confident users of technology, aware of the measures that they can take to keep themselves and others safe online (We are caring).
