Design and Technology
Statement of Intent
Design and Technology at Carrant Brook Junior School aims to provide pupils with the opportunities to develop their capability by combining their design and making skills with knowledge and understanding to create quality products.
Pupils are able to make decisions for themselves by engaging in practical work and will create products they can see, touch and taste for themselves, providing them with a sense of achievement from the products they make.
Our Design and Technology curriculum enables the pupils to learn about the designed and made world and how things work, as well as, learning how to design and make functional products for particular purposes and users (We are inspired).
Pupils will acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of a range of materials, components, mechanisms and structures whilst working within the framework of the relevant health and safety procedures (We are responsible).
The skills learned within the Design and Technology curriculum encourages and supports pupils to make connections and links across the curriculum for example, knowledge about properties of materials can be used in science and the practise of measuring accurately applied in mathematics. By developing their creative, technical and practical expertise pupils can perform everyday tasks confidently and participate in an increasingly technological world (We are confident).
